Tortoisesvn crashes when trying to complete checkout

I have this weird issue where anytime I try to complete an svn checkout in any new folder, I get a crash (154707), even if I upgrade to the most recent build (then I get problem 175614); However I do not get a crash when using 1.7.7

My initial idea was to simply stick to 1.7.7 as it was not crashing on me, but the program keeps updating to the newest version despite the automatic version checker being disabled.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my checkouts are crashing, or at least hot to keep the software from updating past 1.7.7?
