Hi Captain,

so the real issue was that you didn't upgrade your working copies from the
old to the current format. I didn't think of that.
This "upgrade working copy" is not done automatically by design, because
you may have different svn clients installed (e.g. subclipse or other IDE
plugins and TortoiseSVN). Those other clients may not yet be able to handle
the new working copy format and you would be locked out of those.
So an automatic upgrade is a no-go. Yes it involves a bit of manual work,
but it's better to be on the safe side.
