Cherry-picking files to commit is faster than having to visually scan, then select/deselect files - especially when you can use the open file dialog from your IDE or text editor to browse directly to the file's directory.
The drag-n-drop provides this functionality now, but it would be even faster with right-click/queue mechanism.
Example:
I typically am working on 3 different branches - trunk and two previous release branches.
After committing trunk code several levels deep, I then merging to the two release branches.
At this point, it's much faster to commit from the lowest level directory which captures all the changes for the merge from one branch, then go directly to the other branch by changing a version in the path, then dragging the corresponding low-level folder with the changes to the commit dialog.
It's very fast, and there's no unnecessary visual filtering I have to mess with, and it's a few cycles faster as well.
Same principle was taken advantage of by Araxis and I use it frequently. It's simply faster.
