External diff tool not used when diff'ing images

When I right-click on a modified PNG image file and select "SVN Diff" it always opens TortoiseIDiff instead of my external diff tool (which is set to use BeyondCompare). It uses my specified external diff tool for other file types, but not for PNGs. It may have the same problem with any file type but I only use PNGs so I can't speak to that.

This is a new problem when I updated to the latest version of tortoisesvn (1.8.7). I didn't used to have this problem with the previous version of tortoisesvn I had installed (unfortunately I didn't check which version I had installed before I installed the latest).

How do I get tortoisesvn to obey my external Diff tool setting for PNG files? The beyondcompare image diff feature is much better than TortoiseIDiff so I want it to use beyondcompare as I have specified.

I have tried explicitly telling tortoisesvn in the "Settings" panel to use beyondcompare specifically for the .png file extension (under "Advanced settings...") but tortoisesvn just ignores my external diff setting when diff'ing PNG files no matter what I try.

Is this a bug?
