This is possible. However you are the only person with a problem among
thousands who have installed the 1.8 series with no problems at all,
and as far as I've seen nobody has been able to reproduce your issues.
Unfortunately for you, that means than even if the problem does lie in
some installer change, your computer is the only test platform we know
of where the problem can be determined and the fix tested if one is
found.
