I took the time to setup a completely pristine Windows 8 x64 VM and this
crash happens there, too. So, it's probably safe to say that this
behavior does not result from a software conflict.

Given the above, I can't believe that no one else has run into this.

Is there anyone else on Win 8 x64 who is willing and able to test this?
