1.8.1: Merge dialog freezes

I've tried this with both 1.8.0 and 1.8.1. When I try to use the merge
dialog, it freezes on me very consistently.

On this dialog, when I click "..." and choose a location in the
repository, the dialog freezes (it doesn't even fully refresh) for at
least a minute before showing the results.

If I just paste in the URL, then the dialog works as I expect.
