does the other pc use the same 1.7.4 version? IMO, it is better to update
to the latest version if you found a problem, so that we can be sure that
it is not a known bug.

FYI, the server protocol is backward compatible, so you can upgrade your
client safely. beside, 1.7.4 and 1.7.12 use the same branch of subversion,
so there is no problem to upgrade.
