New User: Icons and "checkin" command

Forgive me but please advise if this mail message method is not the proper way to ask questions.

Registered SVN user since about June 2012, installed in Windows 7 32 bit OS. Icons are alive and well on that machine. Just installed in Win 7 64 bit machine and joined this list. Two startup items are bothering me.

1. Have edited my 64-bit registry key ...\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers and reduced the number of identifiers to 9. Still not seeing icons on folders and files. Perhaps I need to import my project? Tried to update one file. Was asked for and provided user credentials. Then tried to update a folder.

2. Have read a lot about "checkin" but do not see that command. Please advise if "SVN Update" is equivalent.
