Just out of curiosity, does right-clicking the Registry Editor and
choosing "Run as administrator" have the same effect? I've never had
problems editing the registry as long as this measure is taken.

Presumably, Patrick tried that, but ya hate to get a third party utility
involved if Windows' built-in privilege escalation facility is sufficient.
