I'm happy to assume that 1.7.2 has fixed the crashes.
I've just tried the nightly from 1.7.x, and I still see a huge (45s. this time) pause after the initial traffic burst before a another set starts off (no login errors this time), during which time TSVN is not responding (with hourglass, and "not responding" in the window title).
Again, all (HTTP) network requests have completed normally before the freeze.
