But not on all layers, it seems.
Using Cygwin, I can create a file " foo ". The Explorer also shows that file with the spaces, but then is buggy when I try to rename it...

That is what the explorer does when I try to rename " foo " to anything else: It complains that it cannot rename the file because "foo" does not exist any more.
