Honestly: I don't understand this description of yours. I've never seen
an option anywhere that says from where to update something.

I think you can change the revisions number while doing a switch, but
normally the WC's BASE revision number shouldn't change. If you specify
a revision number anywhere, I'd expect this to be similar to a switch
and an update to that revision number, unless it is a peg revision.
