Multiple instances of TortoiseMerge crashed my machine

My system: "TortoiseSVN 1.6.16, Build 21511 - 32 Bit , 2011/06/01 19:00:35" on Windows 7 Enterprise.

What I did:
* Click "Check for modifications".
* Press Ctrl+A to select all modified files.
* Right click and "Compare with base".

What I expected:
* A single instance of TortoiseMerge.
* Two buttons to show the previous/next file.

What I got:
* Thousands of instances of TortoiseMerge.
* Unable to do anything. Tried to hold the Esc key but it got worse. Tried to call the Task Manager but the instances of TortoiseMerge always popped to the foreground.
* Had to restart the machine.

These are actually 2 issues very closely related to each other:

1. [Bug report] Add a warning (e.g. "this will open more than 20 instances of TortoiseMerge") OR add a possibility to stop Tortoise from opening thousands of instances of TortoiseMerge.

2. [Feature request] Add two buttons to TortoiseMerge to switch between a list of files.
