You cannot install 64-bit software on the 32-bit XP (or any other
"pure" 32-bit OS).

It's extremely difficult to troubleshoot/diagnose anything with
second-hand information. Redownload JUST the 32-bit installer (to make
sure there's no corruption in the original download) and try again.
