Amazing! This was the very right hint!

I now removed the desktop toolbar and... surprise, surprise: the problem seems to be gone.

Nevertheless the problem did not occur before installing TortoiseSVN. So I guess, there is a link between TortoiseSVN / Desktop toolbar that causes the problem.
I can live without the desktop toolbar, but if any developer wants to dig into this... feel free. ;-)
