It's better than the plugin and Tortoise fighting with each other. In an ideal world (which does not exist) it wouldn't matter and things would just work. Obviously ideal worlds don't exist.

I don't see how this is better than the other approaches you were
railing against last week. VisualSVN requires that you acquire
TortoiseSVN separately & still keep everything in sync. How is this
different from any other client situation, whether it's a plug-in to
Visual Studio or standalone?

Also, they recommend the "latest stable release" of TSVN as 1.6.9.
It's 1.6.10 now.
