Try Settings / Icon Overlays / Status Cache

Set it to Shell or None.

This is a feature I and my coworkers had most problems with (high CPU load, complete lockup).

Note, setting to None will turn off icon overlays in Explorer. Everything else will work,
just the file and folder icons will look like regular icons, without the TSVN marks on them.
