Can't download files from repository

I am a work-from-home user with limited understanding of the intricate workings of T-SVN, so my apologies in advance.
Problem: A repository was removed from the company server. It was restored from a backup disc 2 years later. The company server technician says the files are there. I am trying to download the files from/to home computer and I only receive folders, and either some files or no files at all. My repo-browser window is accurate, it doesn't appear that all the files were copied to server, or I just simply can't see them.
Is this a known issue that I can resolve as the user? Are there any troubleshooting tips posted to rule certain things out? I just upgraded to V 1.6.5, Win XP.
