Okay, let me rephrase that - the web gateway buggers up the References
line, as it only ever includes a single reference to the previous
message instead of putting in references for every parent message like
normal mail clients do.

I mainly like being able to check all parent posts by clicking at the
numbered References-header entries in Thunderbird without having to
switch to threaded mode in the folder list...
