You can install the office compatibility pack to add support for .docx to earlier versions of Word.

WIsh I could help but the only MS Office I have that can handle DOCX
doesn't run on Windows. My wife is plenty happy w/ her Office XP and
doesn't want to have to learn the ribbon.
