It's me again. Just for the record, I found the problem and as I
suspected it had nothing to do with TortoiseSVN at all. It was caused
by a bogus file called Program located on the C: root directory. That
seems to cause odds problems with programs that spawns other
processes. Luckily, I restarted my computer and after logon a Windows
popup warned me about the problematic file ... I suspect I would never
have found that without spending a lot of time. I'm sure that the
bogus file was generated by a CMD script I that was working on, and
which logged data to a file located in the install directory of an
application within the Programs files. Missing quotes, you know :)
