basic question - how to create new directory from old one

Hey all,

This is very basic, but I can't figure it out. I have a directory of
files already in the repository, but now I need to make a copy of the
directory and it's contents and re-add it under a different name with
some changes etc. But when I copy the directory and files, they
remain a part of the repository as a current version...but I want them
to be just regular un-added files...how do I do this?

thanks!
Chris
