Using command line client, it seems very fast to the visualsvn https
server.
So does that point to an issue with the TortoiseSVN client? would seem
to rule out the server a bit.
I realized that I only mentioned http in the title of my post, just
for the sake of clarity, Tortoise seems slow connecting to the
VisualSVN server (which uses either HTTP or HTTPS - I have tried both
and both are slow)
Kurt, I tried the command line test, plus one other - results are
below...
Test results: (checking out a small 10k project with a handful of
revisions)
F: Tortoise client build 14361 -> VisualSVN server 1.6.1 over http
Slow, double sets of PROPFINDS found in trace. 5-6 seconds
F: Tortoise client build 14361 -> VisualSVN server 1.6.1 over https
Slow - did not trace (did not expect to be able to decypher encrypted
https traffic) 5-6 seconds
A: Subversion command line client 1.5.3 -> VisualSVN server 1.6.1 over
https: seemed reasonable (<1 second)
A+++: Tortoise client build 14361 -> SubversionTigrisServer 1.5.3 over
svn protocol FAST FAST FAST*** (<1 second) ***
Kurt, results line 1&2 were my originals, line 3 was the one you
requested, line 4 was as follows: I installed the subversion server
from this site: http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=91&expandFolder=91&folderID=1079
and installed and configured per this article:
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/001093.html for the sake of
the test results I'll call this SubversionTigrisServer 1.5.3
just a comment - tortoise client to subversionTigrisServer is just
plain fast - everything is fast - browsing the repository is instant,
checkouts are near instant - exactly what I'd expect!
If I read a bit more, I might attempt to install the collabnet
distribution of the server and see how http speed is with that.
Again, thanks for the great product!!!
