This feature request somewhat refers to the feature request you give
good reasons against at http://tortoisesvn.net/node/163
This request mentions something like this:
"There is no way to tell if a file has been locked by someone else, so I
need a new overlay to show that."
I assume you remember your own reasons why this request could not be
implemented.
I wanted to make a point here.
Given that it is not possible to continually contact the repository to
get info about if a file is locked, would it not be possible to
communicate this information when you update your checked out directory
(or through some other refresh means). Hence, once you have an up to
date directory you are able to see if someone has locked the files
within this directory. This would mean that if you used locks you would
simply get used to updating your checked out folder before trying to
lock files for editing. Perhaps it wouldn't even require an update but
kind of like the "Check for modifications tab" some kind of one click
refresh could update the locks in your directory without needing to look
at lists in the "Check for modifications tab". I believe that kdesvn
has such functionality if you are looking for an example of this that
might work.
Apologies if this functionality already exists - as far as I can tell it
does not. I have looked at the Subversion properties for a file that
has been locked in a another Checkout directory and it does not have a
Lock Owner or Lock Creation Date. These properties do exist in the
Checkout directory in which the file was locked.
