Whoops. The changelog at
http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/tags/1.5.2/CHANGES says "Improved
svn:externals parsing (r32672, -673, -674, -739)", which sounds like it
might be responsible for the behavior I'm seeing (though I'd debate
their characterization of "Improved").

I thought 1.5.3 was a TortoiseSVN-only update; I didn't realize the base
Subversion libraries had been updated, too. You can probably disregard
this thread then.
