The old ones were drawn pixel by pixel. Now that Vista supports
128x128 icons that is no longer viable so we changed to vector
graphics which are scalable. Unfortunately the small icons really
*need* to be hand drawn but we need a volunteer to integrate the two
methods.

You can turn those off when you disable showing white space. But this
has already been changed on trunk to much thinner line drawing which
takes the same colour as the other whitespace chars. Try a nightly
build.

You can already import icon sets by dropping them into the appropriate
directory. But it needs documenting as has been pointed out in the
last few days by someone else. As for improving the icons, are you
volunteering? ;-)

The raindrop has been there since before I joined the project a few
years ago. And you just complained about icons, so they can't be that
frivolous.
