Overlay icons, TortoiseSVN 1.5.2, Build 13595 - 32 Bit , 2008/07/31 17:04:57

We have two new PCs, Win XP SP3
newly installed:
Subversion 1.5.1 from Collabnet
TortoiseSVN 1.5.2, Build 13595 - 32 Bit , 2008/07/31 17:04:57
Language pack German
Checked: Settings for overlay icons are correct

On one PC there are no overlay icons whatsoever after any checkout.
On the other, there are icons only for folders, but no file gets any overlay icon.

I have searched the internet for a day or so. Though there are lots of discussions concerning overlay icons, I did not find anything about icons not showing at all.


What I tried:
deinstall everything
install SVN 1.4.6
install TortoiseSVN 1.4.8 with German pack
result: none

All the actual SVN-functionality like checkout, commit etc works fine.  So it's not a functional problem, only  a  (severe) visual one.
I have no idea what I could do about it. Are there hidden settings in Windows one must observe?

On my PC, also operating with Win XP SP3, it all works flawless. The only difference is, that I have upgraded from 1.4.8 to 1.5.0 to 1.5.2.
