TortoiseSVN and Microsoft Office

I'm attempting to migrate our company from VSS to subversion. We're a
windows shop so we're using TortoiseSVN to get the job done but we're
running into a snag when it comes to document management. Is there a
'best practice' around managing Microsoft Office docs that I should
use other than what comes out of the box. As it stands, I'm not sure
how to direct people when they need to merge changes made between
Excel files (for example). Any help or direction on this would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
RW
