UI changed, how do I reconfigure?

Sorry to ask a dumb question but neither the local help nor faq etc. are
much use when you do not have a name for what you are talking about. :-)

On XP.

The recent upgrade (which is working fine so far as I know) brought a UI
change which is very unacceptable.

If I for example browse a repository the text background now has a
blurred grey disk which is visually highly distracting. How do I remove it?

Please remember that there are people with visual problem so when you
change things it is all to easy to make life difficult.
