I saw your post on subversion-users; but as I'm not subscribed, I cannot
easily answer. Would you please be so nice and add to this thread:

There's a tool "advzip" that allows re-compression of zip archives; in
debian in "advancecomp".

It doesn't (currently, I'll try to contact the authors) work with piping -
but if it did, versioning compressed files like ODT or JAR with FSVS would
allow to re-*un*compress them on commit, causing the delta algorithm on
the server to _just work_.
