But if that's happened, your commit will be blocked anyway because you
haven't updated your WC. At most, I'd advocate maybe adding a button
that hooks out TO the "Check for modifications" dialog and
automatically "clicks" the Check Server button, but adding it to this
otherwise streamlined dialog seems clunky.

Are you regularly committing a small number of files out of a larger
set of changed files, to the point where maximizing the Commit dialog
and shrinking the log message window still doesn't show enough items?
