Oops, that FAQ is very out-of-date. I will fix it when I get a moment.

That definitely exists, although the options may be different from
what you expect. They are:
Default (use status cache in external process, recursive status)
Shell (no external cache, internal cache for current folder only, no
recursive status)
None (no cache, folders get a 'normal' overlay, files get no overlay)

The 'Shell' option is the nearest thing to disabling caching.

Did you try using the help button?

No idea. You haven't said what your problem is. Where are your working
copies located, how big are they, what do you consider to be slow?
