As for automatic repository checks, that's why I suggested that there
could be both a "Check for Modifications" and a "Check for Updates"
menu entry.

The "Update" obviously mafes an automatic check, so it would make
sense for a "Check for Updates" to do likewise.

But this would really just be a convenience option.
