TortoiseSVN works slow from removable usb pen drive

Hello,

My question is about the use of TortoiseSVN on a removable USB pen
drive. I want to store my repository's on my brand new usb 2.0 pen
drive, with a storage capacity of 2 GB. Problem is that when I checkout,
update or even commit a repository saved on my USB stick, it runs
terrible slow.

Posting my question up here means I hope more people have this problem,
or know more about it?

I primary use my usb stick in combination with windows vista, but it
makes no differences with windows xp. While i noticed that svn uses a
lot of small files, i changed the allocation unit size from default to
1024. It didn't speed up anything, but it did help me save some space on
the device.

Thanks in advance,

Jogchum.
