Delete files locally

Hello,

I am attempting to delete all the files that I checked out of a repository.
I don't want these deletions to be committed to the
repository. I just want the files off my local machine. From
a previous post of the same subject, it seemed that to
do this, I should just delete the folder. But when I try to
do this, I get the error message:

"Cannot delete tmp: It is being in use by another
person or program. Close any programs that
might be using the file and try again."

Does anyone know the proper way to delete these files?

thanks,
Patrick
