Well, GNU doesn't mean that something is documented. And I have
absolutely no intention to go through the sourcecode of the GNU patch
tool to find it out. I once tried to understand the sourcecode of it,
I had to give up - that code is a complete mess (if you don't believe
me, try it yourself).
