Implemented in revision 8757:

NEW: Pressing SHIFT when un-/checking directories in the status list
control makes the action recursive.

As a workaround:
1. sort using the column "File".
2. select all the relevant items, but don't set the check mark
3. setting the check mark for one selected item will then set it on all the
others too.
