I also develop with the latest versions of the externals, and when I do
a release, the current revision numbers are fixed.

Maybe there could be a function to commit the working copy with static
revisions for the externals? Now I just have to look up the revisions
and copy them in the externals property. That's mindless, repetitive and
error-prone.
