Yes, and since the OP was using 1.2.x and the 1.3.x binaries are
compiled against a different version, surely the same would be true for
1.4.x.

I usually avoid BDB as well, for the same reasons (I usually forget to
do a dump using the old version before installing a later version, so if
I had been using BDB then things would have gotten complicated). I
prefer not doing dumps at all, since they take only slightly less than
forever.
