Also tried with https access now, against a Subversion 1.4.0 server. And
it still works for me.

So there must be something different on your machine than on mine. Since
I have no idea what it might be:

* what version is your server? Or do you use file:/// access?
* do you have non-ASCII chars in the URL?
* or maybe spaces in the URL?
