Thanks for your fast reply - it helped me to solve my problem!
The problem was that I had two different versions of TortoiseSVN
installed on my computer...

After uninstalling both of them and manually cleaning up the registry
(there were some entries left) I installed 1.3.3 again and now it
works as expected. Thanks again for your help!

BTW, is it recommended to uninstall TortoiseSVN prior to the
installation of a new version?
