We found that that out of the box the Tortoise performance was pretty
slow and was pinning the CPU on our dev boxes. We did a few things to
alleviate this:

In settings:
-Make sure to use a global ignore pattern to ignore temporary files like
.obj Debug, etc
-In ICON overlays leverage the Include Paths to only overlay directories
you care about
-In dialogs 2, uncheck "Recurse into unversioned folders"

Telling us which version of TSVN would be a good start ;-)
Also, which Windows version, single or multiple CPU.
