existing working copy no longer recognized after upgrade

here is the event flow:

- i have an existing working copy on my PC. works fine
- i upgrade Tortoise version
- after reboot, Tortoise no longer recognizes working copy as such.

This happened to me twice. luckily, i committed all changes to repository
before upgrade, so i only needed to recreate working copy.

hence, the questions:

- is this a known problem?
- is there a way to convince Tortoise that a folder actually holds a working copy
so i do not have to create another?
