I finally got it to happen on one of my machines as well.
I'll try to better debug this, but from your stack trace it looks as if
the icon handler of the windows photo viewer somehow calls or triggers a
WM_PAINT - which according to the comment in the OnMessagePending()
method (where it gets stuck) should not happen.
Not sure if I can work around this, but I'll try...
