Jumping from +2GB to -27GB is not plausible for a simple overflow.
If I remember correctly, this has been fixed a while ago (not sure
whether that change has made in into a 1.6.x or earlier release).
Is that an older (pre-1.6) 32 bit version?

However, I added some more code in r20584 to ensure that
the initial values are actually zeroed.
