That's a pretty good solution to prevent the locator bar from being to crowded with linking lines! Or perhaps the lines could be shown in light gray and become colorized when the moved line is selected/hovered?

The panel betwen the views would be nice indeed. I guess that it would be possible to reuse some of the code from the locator bar for such a panel, but no idea on how much work it would be... Moving the scrollbar is not neede imho. It is more of a visual nicety than a must-have.
