Both are used for the same purpose - to review the changes and decide which of them should go public. Currently if I want to (de)select all in "Commit" dialog list I have to press "Ctrl-A" and click which is not very intuitive and the most annoying part is that each time I think that "there was a similar dialog somewhere that has a nice checkbox for that" - that nice dialog is "Create patch" dialog.

I assume you are using a nightly as 1.6.7 does have that checkbox.
Don't you have the selection links/buttons above the list box? All,
None, Files, etc.
