Do you mean that the "-r" argument on the external isn't honored? This would be sort of a breaker of this feature for me. We exclusively use explicit revisions on externals, and if these aren't supported the view given in the repository-browser would simply be wrong. (That is, showing something that would never be reproduced in any working copy without modifications.)
 
Since it is possible to choose a revision in the repo browser, I would expect any externals to be shown as the revision that was specified in that revision.
 
Are there any technical difficulties with supporting externals with explicit revisions?
