Hm,
1. there are other double columns, which are distinguished by "Remote",
so without "Remote" only "Revision" misleads to the assumption, that
this column always shows the local revision.
2. After "Check repository" the connection to the repo is just done.
Also: On local view, the "Remote"-columns should better be greyed,
stroked-through or just hidden. If there just is no value in a column
like "Remote property status" that could mean twice: 'no data available'
or 'no value' which IMO is confusing.

Thanks for the link. OK, there are arguments, not to do this. But ...
- rename "Check for modifications" to "Detailed Status" or similar,
because "check" leaves to the impression that some more or less
expensive process (e.g. remote access) is started. (remember "check out")
- "Needs Update" or "Remotely modified" is only 1 additional overlay,
which could be refreshed by Ctrl-Refresh or "Check repository" and
verbosed by "check-for-modifications" dialog.

My claim was not about the visibility of remote values, but about
indication, if remote values were actually accessed or not. In the
NetBeans example this is perfectly indicated by the background colour of
the 3 buttons.

I'm afraid, you misunderstood me. Not the folder path I'm missing, but
indication, if the dialogue concerns only a *single file*, or the *whole
folder* (including subfolders) denoted in the window's title.
You have it in the "Log Messages" dialogue (in case of single file the
file name (without complete path) is denoted in the window's title). Why
not also in the Check-for-modifications dialogue?
BTW: The tooltip is not shown if "Check for modifications" was invoked
on single file.
BTW: It's not obvious, that the "normal=.." etc. values are calculated
*including* the subfolders.

The maybe *very* long path *is actually* shown in the window title, but
not the file name itself (which doesn't make it much longer), when the
dialogue was invoked on a single file. (BTW: In this case also the "Show
xxx files" check boxes don't make much sense.) In contrast you have it
in the "Log Messages" dialogue.
